How do we AGGLO? Designing urban ecotones | Booklet pilot edition
This booklet is a synthesis of the exhibition “How do we AGGLO? Designing urban ecotones”, which was shown at the cultural platform feldfünf in the Metropolenhaus, Berlin, 2023.
It is based on a research project from bfstudio since 2019 about agglomerations as future places of our cities. The negative image of the outskirts has served its time. Instead, we understand the agglomeration and its areas as unique potential that cannot be left to unbridled growth. In this sense, the project study examines the space between city and country and develops with the AGGLOhaus a typology that acts as a catalyst and initiator at the site and in the neighborhood.
The book was first time presented at the exhibition of the 19th International Architecture Biennial Buenos Aires in 2024. Special thanks to everyone who contributed to the project and helped create this booklet.
„We present AGGLOmerating as a design activity. Moving away from the common understanding of “agglomeration” as a description of problematic, disjointed urban spaces, we argue that we can activate neglected urban areas in peripheral locations to harness their undiscovered potential.„
