Rudolf Fränkel, Berlin – Bucharest

Culture, Exhibition, Concept

With the exhibition “Rudolf Fränkel, Berlin – Bucharest” (29.10.-20.11.2008), bfstudio-architekten brought a piece of German-Romanian (building) history to Bucharest. In the context of the Bucharest Architecture Biennial, the Gartenstadt Atlantic was taken as an example of how architectural heritage can be handled with care.

Bucharest after the seizure of power in 1933 provided the starting point for the exhibition. More than almost any other city, Fränkel’s exiled home has been shaped by 1930 architecture dedicated to establishing a symbiosis between living and urban life. Images by renowned photographer Losif Kiralyis illustrated the city and thus the architecture of Fränkel’s modernist dream.
