Nam June Paik Museum
New Construction, Competition
In 2003, a competition was announced for the construction of the Nam June Paik Museum, built in order to collect and exhibit media art in South Korea.
Integrating and manipulating the geographical surroundings are the guiding ideas of the design. Characteristic of this is the partly subterranean layout of the museum, which is embedded into and narrows the valley floor. Through the artificial outer shell, the environmental landscape is directly addressed and incorporated into the building’s exterior.
