Office, new construction and refurbishment, workplace concept

The mechanical engineering company KORSCH AG, based in Berlin-Reinickendorf, is a leading global manufacturer of tableting machines for the pharmaceutical (80%) and non-pharmaceutical industries. The company headquarters, dating from the 1990s, required a spatial upgrade of the exterior and the development of a contemporary working environment inside. The existing building was rebuilt, upgraded and extended with additional volume. With the accentuation of the entrance, the exclusively barrier-free usable space was almost doubled. The existing building was completely renovated in terms of fire protection and energy. A new (re)envelope combines the old and the new into a single whole. The grey energy of the existing building, the predominantly recyclable materials in the new building and the significant reduction of the primary energy demand result in a building of high sustainability. The outdoor facilities were unsealed, redesigned and in future will be managed from the collected rainwater.
